I love watching movies. I like a lot of different genres. No matter what my mood is, I can always find something that fits the bill. When I'm feeling down, I sometimes like a good comedy. My favorite are romantic comedies. The plot is pretty simple. A boy meets a girl and there are road blocks to them getting together. The lead actors are usually likable people, the supporting cast give comic relief and villains are people we love to hate. In the end, though, there is usually a happy ending. Romantic comedies, or comedies in general, can be predictable but they're also pretty entertaining. I don't go out of my way to see slapstick or physical comedies that much. But, once in a while, I catch a good one on TV.

I like dramas, mysteries, and action and adventure stories, not to mention documentaries. My favorite are movies that have surprise endings that throw you for a loop . Just when you thought you had the whole thing figured out, there's a plot twist. Good screenwriters or directors can pull it off.

One type of movie I don't like that much are horror movies. Scary movies just don't do it for me. But, there is one exception. I like movies by the director Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock was born in England but made most of his films in the U.S. Before he died in 1980, he made a lot of movies that are now considered classics. Most of them are nail- biters; some are mysteries and some are horror stories.

The scariest movie I think he made and that I've ever seen was a movie called Psycho. The movie is set in a seedy motel called Bates Motel. The main character owns the motel and lives there with his mother. Strange things happened at this motel. People check in, but sometimes, they don't check out. One day, a very pretty woman checks in to the motel. We know something bad is going happen to her. Sure enough, we see her get murdered. At the very end, we find out who the murderer is. It's one of those surprise endings. Just when you thought you have it figured out, it turns out to be a shocker. I won't spoil the ending for you if you haven't seen it. I recommend it though and give it a big thumbs up. But, be warned. It's not for the faint-hearted.

Script by Dr. Lucy Tse

lucy used several expressions and terms that are commonly associated with talking about movies as well as some more general vocabulary. she said that no matter what was her mood was she could always find something that fits the bill. when we say something fits the bill we mean it meets the requirement it is a good answer to a problem. so for example i need to buy new car i need something that has four doors and room for extra luggage and packages so i go and find a big truck and i say well that's fits the bill that gives me what i am looking for. lucy mention that plot is hear favorite kind of movies romantic comedies pretty simple. a plot is of course is story what happens in the movie. we talk about plot in movies, we talk about plot in novels any sort of fiction typicallly to talk albou the story to describe the story. lucy said that typical plot in romantic comedy is that boy meats a girl and road blocks to them getting together. a road block is something is here an obstacle a problem literally a road block is what the police may put up when there catch who is going to but her it is more generally she said that the lead actors in the movie is a usually likable people the lead actors is a star of the movie so in the movie war th world  the lead actor is tom cruise that is a example of lead actor other people area supporting actors or she used the term supporting cast supporting cast means everyone in the movie there are the supporting actors those are the supporting less important minor role on the movie. the supporting sometimes include those re actors that provide certain comedy as well a s williims. willing is a evil person bad person someone who is lusy said we love to hate meaning that is very easy to dislike we like the fact hate that character in the movie. movies usually have romantic comedy movies usually have a happy ending that the expression is we used that has a successful conclusion. boy and girl together and they live happily ever after. meaning that they live together for their rest of life. these plots for romantic comedy says very predictable you know what will happen she says that she doesn't go to the way to see slapstick movies. to go out of your way means to put in ezra effort to do something additional i am going to out of my may to do john next week.means i am going to do that requires a lot of work but it is worthed for me so out of worth means means put in extra effort. sometimes we will say don't go out of your way the book tahat means don't do special in terms of your effort slapstick comedy is comedy where people fall down. this physical comedy cahrly chaplain example of wo use slapstick comedy lucy mention tha movie has surprise endings that through you for a loop through you for a loop means to confuse you to surprise you you thought the was going to end this way and suddenly at the end of the movie something very different happened this is what we call throwing for loop we can use just for movies sometimes people just a say a  life throw me a loop something happened in m y life that made me change that wouldn't expected. lucy said that she figured out figured out means to solve the problem to understand it we use that expression a lot of different usage in english i figured out who standing next to me was yesterday means i discovered i found out to figure out means to find out kucy said that some movies have a plot twist plot twist literally means to turn your body plot twist means change something you didn't expect in the plot. so you watching the movie there is a very likable handsome man and suddenly he turns a nd kills another person that would be  allot twist was thought he is a nice guy we find out he is a bad guy. lucy also mentioned screen writers and directors the screen writer in the movie that writes rahtetr movie script usually types it on the computer screen writer is who writes a plot who write what we called a screen play or the guide to the movie with the all dialogues in the movie a director is someone who actually tells the actors tells the other people working on the movie what they should do anyone whois not an actor in movie is called the crew. we use the term crew to mean anyone working with the movie that isn't actually in front of thaw camera meaning they are not actor so they are an sound person and lighting person theses are all sort of crew. the term crew can refer any group of people who are working usually in some physical capacity. few other expression that lusy moved used rathe rshe said that good director can pull it off to pull something off means to be successful with that. usually somehitng that would otherwise would be difficult for example i ran marathon last week i very tired in mile number twenty one but i managerd pull it off another words i completed it i was successful. lucy said that scary movies just don't do it for me when we use the expression that does't do it for me means i don't like it it doesn't get me excited i doesn't get me interested. she said in discussing about alfred hit chock movies his movies area considered classics when we say something is a classics we mean it is considered one of the best a classic play for example shack sphere would be meg belt pr otholo anail biter another term lucy used for scary movies a nail biter means a movie that makes has afraid so afraid that was bite our finger nails it usually the finger nail that is very sussfensful what is going to happen auntie the very end of the movie. movie actors we said before is called cast and there are lead actor in a movie the another term we used in main character is the most important person in the story it could be a movie it could be a novel any sort of fiction lucy said that sure enough we see someone getting murdered in the movies the expression sure enough is a very common we use that ago mean just as we expected i went to the store yesterday and sure enough the vaagatables wherein a sale meaning just was i expected. a shocker another term lucy used in describing alfred hitch hock movies soccer is something that surprises us to shocking movie is surprising movie lucy said will not tell you the end of the movie because she doesn't want to spoil the ending to spoil something to ruin it to destroy it. here the expression the spoil the ending means to give away to tell you what the ending  is so that you won't be enjoy it. so often when we want to read new book to read  someone recommends to us they start to telling us about the plot and we will say don't 'spil the ending meaning son't tell me what happens at the end of the movie or the novel so i can enjoy it. to more term lucy used when talking about movies is she said that she could recommend this movie and give it big thumbs up to give thumbs up somethings means to approve of it to say that is good just like a roman emporaris would give thumbs up and thumbs down. thumbs up is approval and thumbs down is disapproval the expression two thumbs up you will often hear in the united states particularly in the movie advertisements. the expression from who seems the having movies thumbs up and thumbs down two thumbs up mens very god movie finally lucy said that alfraid hitchochck movie is not a faint hearted. to be faint hearted means to be daily scared someone who is get scared and frightened very easily is faint hearted. that is going to do id eslpodcast we run little long we went little longer than we expected.  we hope you enjoyed it we will see you again next time on eslpodcast thanks
